Hi Everyone,
I am Karthick KG from the University of Bolton and am currently on my final year of PhD in Technical Textiles. I am here on behalf of Education UK to offering help and advice to students coming from abroad, especially India as I come from Chennai, TN.
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have with regards to studying in the UK and I will get back to you within a day with possible answers or some references.
One thing that I would like you all to know is that Education in the UK is so diverse, but highly focused. What I mean to say is that you need not continue your masters on the same subject that you hold your Bachelors degree in. You can choose any subject that you wish to study as long as you have keen interest and some relationship with your basic degree. I am mentioning this because I have come across many students who had joined a course and half way through the course saying 'I could have taken other course instead of this' etc. etc....
If you feel like studying any particular subject and even if you think that you are not eligible, PLEASE CHECK WITH THE UNIVERSITY.
Regards,
Karthick KG

one of the major concerns for people coming to study in the UK is the Visa process. I have heard that many are not able to enrol because of the delay in recieving the ATAS certificate. I want to inform everyone that even though the site says that it takes upto 10 days to obtain the ATAS certificate, ther are known incidences where it has even taken over 2 months. Therefore, anyone who is planning to come to UK need to start the process ASAP. Please do not wait until the last minute as there tends to be a bottleneck in Aug / Sep and considerable delay.
If you want to know the Visa proces in detail, i would recommend checking out the Education UK website at http://pea.to/01_visa

Hi Sanket,
Can you be specific as to what do you mean by scenario? It is always good to study post graduate degrees in the UK. But if your coming in the UK is mainly to secure a job, I would advice not to. There are too many job cuts happening here and it is difficult to get a jobn, but not impossible.
It might take anywhere from 1-4 months to get a part-time job and therefore you are advised to have funds to support yourself for atleast 6 months. Failing which you might have to take some unneccessary measures.
Depending on which university you join, it can take anywhere from £350 - £650 per month to meet out your accomodation and food expenses.
Hope this helps.

Karthick

Hi Sanket,
the job scenario depends on how well you utilise your time here and how well you develop yourself personally. But, Generally...the job situation is very tough here.

Hi Junaid,
Unfortunately, no one can give you confirmation as to whether you will get a job here after complet8ing your education. It all depends on how you create your contacts and what you achieve while you are studying here in the UK.
All I can say is that it is very very difficult to get a job with just your degree in hand.
