Walking into a Ecole Hoteliere Lausanne-certified Hospitality Management College (Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa), one least expects to meet a professor donned with a party cap, surrounded by dancing children and doing the boogie-woogie.

But that’s precisely how I first met, Yasmine Charania, a learning facilitator at Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa (LEH), since its inception. Drawing from over 9 years of experience in the field of training and communications, Yasmine now facilitates learning at LEH on varied areas of core communications and soft skills training. Playing a vital role in sensitizing students on International Business Protocol and Business Etiquettes – Yasmine has an air of quiet confidence and finesse.

So what was she doing at what seemed like a children’s Christmas party?

“Teaching them some Art of Living techniques”, she informed me.

This is how I learned about LEH’s unique curriculum that goes well beyond the classroom and incorporates many extra-curricular activities, including social service. LEH students get to choose from an array of unique pursuits such as paragliding, water sports, mountaineering and trekking, performing arts, gardening and environment, yoga and aerobics, social service and pure arts.

The course thus aims to not just graduate students that know how to set a table for a seven course meal, but also works to sensitize them to those who can’t afford even one meal a day. Students not only spend time indoors reading books, but are encouraged to nurture hobbies and participate in activities that go beyond course demands.

The result of course… is a well rounded graduate that’s not just book smart…..
