The Navy have called for applications from meritorious young and bright unmarried men who have passed Plus Two to join the Naval College of Engineering at Lonavala (Pune) and the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in Kochi, through the 10+2 (technical) cadet-entry scheme that prepares them to make a career as officers in marine, electrical and electronic engineering and naval architecture.
Entry qualification is senior secondary, 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 75 per cent marks in aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics and 50 per cent marks in English either in class 10 or 12.
The candidates should be aged 16 ½ to 19 (born between February 1, 1989 and August 1, 1991).

The minimum height required is 157 cm with correlated weight as per age, eye sight distance vision 6/12, 6/12 correctable to 6/6, 6/6 with glasses. Filled applications should be sent by ordinary post to Post Bag no. 04, R.K. Puram PO (Main), New Delhi – 110 066, to reach on or before June 28. Selection will be on the basis of Services Selection Board interviews for short-listed applicants, scheduled from July to December in Bangalore or Bhopal.

The duration of interviews is five days, consisting of stages 1 (first day) and 2 (four days). Stage 1 test consists of intelligence tests, picture perception and group discussion.
Those who clear this test are eligible to appear for stage 2 consisting of psychological and group-task tests and interviews. Successful candidates will undergo a special medical examination. Return sleeper class train fare admissible for the SSB interview will be paid, if appearing for the first time in the test. The training is scheduled from February 2008. The selected candidates are entered as cadets and undergo a 16-week naval orientation course at the Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala. Some of them will be selected for nomination to the B.Tech. course in naval architecture and ship building in Cusat. They will have to appear for Cusat-CAT. Other cadets will undergo a four-year engineering course at the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala.

The cadets will be allotted engineering or electrical branch.
On passing the course, B.Tech. degrees will be awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University. The cost of study and training will be borne by the Navy. Cadets are provided free clothing and mess. After B.Tech., the cadets will be deputed for a six-month course in warship design at Visakhapatnam, followed by a year-and-a-half postgraduate diploma course in naval architecture at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
