Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Higher Degree and Ph. D Programmes
Admissions to Higher Degree and Ph. D Programmes for I Semester 2007-2008
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is a University established under Section 3 of the UGC act. Applications are invited for admission to the following higher degree and Ph. D programmes offered by the Institute at Pilani Campus. Admissions will be made on all-India basis strictly according to merit and suitability of the candidates to pursue the following programmes of studies.
Degree Programmes Offered:
1. M.E in Biotechnology; Chemical; Civil (with specialization in Structural Engg./Transportation Engineering); Communication Engineering ; Compute Science; Design Engineering; Electrical with specialization in Power Electronics & Drives; Embedded Systems, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Mechanical; Microelectronics, Software Systems.
2. M. Pharm
3. Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Engineering & Technology Management; IT enabled Services Management
4. Doctoral Programmes leading to Ph. D in all the disciplines.
Input Qualifications:
M. E Biotechnology – Any integrated first degree of BITS or its equivalent with adequate preparation in Bio-Chemistry and Microbiology.
M.E Chemical; Civil; Computer Science; Mechanical – integrated first degree of BITS in the respective discipline or its equivalent.
M. E Communication Engineering – Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics/ Electronics & Instrumentation or its equivalent.
M. E Design Engineering; Manufacturing Systems Engineering – Integrated first degree of BITS in Mechanical or its equivalent or M. Sc (Tech) Engineering Technology of BITS or its equivalent with the requirement of taking certain additional courses.
M.E Electrical with specialization in Power Electronics & Drives – Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics / Electronics & Instrumentation or its equivalent.
M.E. Embedded Systems – Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics / Electronics & Instrumentation / Computer Science / or its equivalent.
M.E Microelectronics – Integrated first degree of BITS in Electrical & Electronics / Electronics & Instrumentation / Computer Science / Physics or its equivalent
M.E Software Systems – Any integrated first degree of BITS or its equivalent with specific prior preparation.
M. Pharm – Integrated first degree of BITS in Pharmacy or its equivalent.
MBA – Any integrated first degree of BITS or B.E / B. Tech degree in Engineering disciplines from any other recognized University.
Ph. D: Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent. Any applicant with qualification equivalent to integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the institute.
Employed professionals having long experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph. D programme will be considered under the ‘Ph. D Aspirants’ scheme and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own locations of work. Candidates holding any of the BITS degree or working in an organization collaborating with BITS will normally be considered under this scheme.
Note:
(i) For the above programmes, short-listed candidates will be asked to come to Pilani for tests and interview at their own cost.
(ii) Those admitted to M.E Embedded Systems and ME Microelectronics will also be interviewed for scholarship sponsored by NXP Semiconductors India Pvt Ltd (founded by Philips) and if selected will get tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend of Rs.7000/-
(iii) Assistantship for Teaching Career: Applications for admission to the higher degree and Ph. D programmes will also be considered for financial assistance in the form of Teaching / Project/ Research Assistantships. Such selected candidates will required to participate in teaching and other developmental programme of the Institute under the guidance of a mentor. Assistantships with full fee waiver will be provided to such candidates. The total compensation amounts to about Rs.2 lakhs per annum depending upon the involvement in the Institute activities.

Interested and eligible candidates should apply through the prescribed application form in one of the following modes:
(i) Register Online at New Page 1 (http://www.bitsadmission.com/hdadmn/) and download the application form. The completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs.800/- should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333 031 OR
(ii) Obtain the application form by post from the undersigned by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name and complete postal address accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs.900/-. Requests by post will be accepted only till 19th June 2007
Demand drafts should be drawn in favour of “Birla Institute of Technology & Science” payable at State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code 10398) or UCO bank, Vidhya Vihar, Pilani (Code:0150) or State Bank of India, Zuari Nagar, Goa (code 1976).
Deadline for submission of the completed application form to the Admission Officer, BITS, Pilani is 5.00 pm on 30th June 2007.
