London University seeks tie-up with Indian varsities

Targeting a wider student base in India, the University of London has introduced its distance-learning program through its External System, reported Business Line.

For the purpose of delivering its course in India, the federal university is in talks with the University Grants Commission and Association of Indian Universities for partnerships.

"India and Britain have a partnership agreement, especially for higher education. The Indian universities alone cannot meet the current economic need for professionals in the country. Therefore, we would like to partner with leading universities to step up our presence here," said Graeme Davies, Vice-Chancellor, University of London.

The university, which has a diverse student population of over 90,000, with a further 41,000 students studying by distance learning on the university's External System, is in talks to deliver its curriculum through the university platforms in India. "Delhi University has given a formal approval in this regard," Davies added.

Graeme said that Indian students are among the largest ethnic student base within the University campus, adding that the university's distance learning has been introduced globally to match the industry demands.

"For those who are unable to come to London to study, the University of London External System offers a flexible way to study from wherever in the world," Graeme said.

The fee structure varies from course to course. Students can opt from over 100-odd courses including Economics, Management, Finance and IT systems among others.

In India, Indian School of Business and Finance (ISBF) is one of the institutes offering University of London's undergraduate degree in association with the London School of Economics & Political Science, in courses like Economics, Finance, Management and other social sciences.
